KUALA NERUS: The Terengganu government is rewarding two state athletes to the tune of RM60,000 for qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics and Tokyo Paralympics.
The duo are national women’s sprinter Azreen Nabila Alias and paralympic athlete Zuhairie Ahmad Tarmizi who will represent the country in highway cycling.
State Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said the incentive was to help them make better final preparations before leaving for Tokyo.
“We hope the contribution of RM30,000 for each can help them in their final preparations and also as an encouragement for them to work harder to make the country proud.
“We have high hopes to see them bring home medals from the world’s biggest sporting events,” he told reporters after a video call session with the Terengganu contingent athletes who will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, last night.
Apart from Azreen Nabila and Zuhairie, two other Tokyo-bound athletes from the state who have been given incentives before this are national cycling sensation Azizulhasni Awang who will be competing in track cycling and national archer Khairul Anuar Mohamad.
The Tokyo Olympics will be held from July 23 to Aug 8 while the Paralympic Games from Aug 24-Sept 5.-Bernama
