Cosmetology girls secured gold with skin cream

A team of three students from cosmetology programme of Keningau Vocational College was awarded with gold medal at the Virtual Expo of Innovation Product and System Design (VIDE) hosted by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP) on 8 December 2020. Calviana Adeline Tadahogay Martin, Elysca Florey Jackson and Syahirah Nur Ain Binti Rasmet was one of the six teams that represented the school and they were delighted that their effort earned them a gold medal. The product that they presented “Scrub to Fab” was a type of cream that could exfoliate dead skin cells which allowed skin to absorb skincare products better. Their presentation video can be accessed through this link:

The product was originally conceived and made by a former student, Eleanor Pius, who was mentored by the current head of programme, Bibiana Paulus. Since then, the students from this programme have continued to present and even sell this cream as the signature product of the college. It was made of natural ingredients mainly papaya seeds, virgin coconut oil, shea butter and eucalyptus oil. The purpose of creating this product was to help women who suffered certain skin conditions such as eczema, keratosis, pilaris, psoriasis and chronic dry skin. They believed that this product could remove dead cell skins, moisturize and smoothen skin and makes it healthier with vitamins.  Mr. Johari Sabin, the director of the college, stated that he was proud of the students’ achievement as it showed that they are capable of creating marketable products which can help them become successful entrepreneurs upon their graduation from the institution. He further added that developing the students’ entrepreneurial skills is one of the objectives of the vocational college curriculum.
